Did You Know?

·       Mari Alice Conrad is an award-winning composer based in Edmonton. Her "Northern Sunrise" was originally a string quartet and was adapted for string orchestra by the composer.

·       The Ball of Beatrice d'Este is based on imagined dance at the glittering court of the Duke of Milan in the 15th Century.  Milan was a centre of power and culture during the Italian Renaissance - Leonardo da Vinci painted his Last Supper there at this time!

·       Mozart's "Coronation" Mass may not have originally been written for a coronation at all.  However, after it was performed at the coronation of Holy Roman Emperor Francis II (a year after Mozart's death), it became a popular choice for celebrations in the royal court.
