Did You Know?
· Fauré wrote his Dolly Suite over several years in the 1890s, with each new movement presented to his mistress’ daughter (nicknamed Dolly) for her birthdays and other events.
· Mendelssohn’s violin concerto took him six years to complete. This was partly because the piano-playing composer spent a lot of time consulting with his childhood friend and violinist Ferdinand David, who then premiered the piece.
· Dvorak’s 6th Symphony was his big breakthrough – before it he was mostly known only in the Czech Republic. It was published as his first symphony for many years as his first five symphonies were lost and only rediscovered after his death.
There will be a 30 minute pre-concert chat with Maestro Michael Hall at 1:15pm
